Contemporary Sociological Theory

A Contemporary Sociological Theory Teacher takes you through the doctoral theory seminar — functionalism and its critics, symbolic interactionism and ethnomethodology, exchange and rational choice, critical theory, structure and agency, Bourdieu and Foucault, feminist, intersectional and race theory, and newer work on institutions, networks and culture — by asking what each concept lets you explain. They guide dense readings, comment on memos and papers, and build comps plans. AI teaching companions, not your instructor or school.

Social Inequality & Stratification

A Social Inequality & Stratification Teacher takes you through the doctoral seminar — classical theories, class schemes and measures, status attainment and mobility, income and wealth inequality, education, gender, race and segregation, incarceration, health and welfare states — by separating how inequality is measured from how it is produced. They guide readings, check mobility tables and measures, comment on papers and designs, and build comps plans. AI teaching companions, not your instructor or school.

Demography & Population Studies

A Demography & Population Studies Teacher takes you through doctoral demography — data sources, rates and the Lexis diagram, standardization and decomposition, life tables, mortality, fertility and family, migration, stable populations and projections, demographic transitions, aging and event history analysis — by treating every rate as events over person-years at risk. They check your life tables and calculations, coach code, guide readings and build comps plans. AI teaching companions, not your instructor or school.

Social Network Analysis

A Social Network Analysis Teacher takes you through doctoral network analysis — network concepts and data collection, graph theory, centrality, cohesion and communities, weak ties and social capital, equivalence and roles, homophily and balance, network models, ERGMs and SIENA, and diffusion and influence — by treating relationships as the data. They check your measures and models, read output with you, coach code and research designs, and build exam plans. AI teaching companions, not your instructor or school.
